Flat Black Coffee has been quietly doing the work since 2003, micro-roasting in Boston long before specialty coffee was a citywide conversation. Its Lower Mills cafe in Dorchester is the heart of the operation, pouring from a deep rotation of around twenty single-origin coffees sourced from around the world — micro-roasted so your bag, brewed cup, or espresso lands fresh. As one of the city's largest independently owned specialty roasters, it has the range of a much bigger name but the feel of a neighborhood regular's spot, complete with community throwdowns and a genuine love of the craft.
