Vietnamese phin brew, bold flavors, authentic, family legacy

Saigon Coffee: San Diego’s Vietnamese Coffee Sanctuary

Saigon Coffee stands as San Diego’s vibrant ode to Vietnamese coffee culture, channeling the soulful legacy of founders Vinh and Tu Duong. Siblings raised in rural Vietnam, they grew up savoring phin-brewed coffee lovingly prepared by their mother using Dak Lak’s finest beans—a tradition dating back to 1977. Missing those bold flavors after immigrating to the US, they launched Saigon Coffee in 2012, first captivating the local scene at the Hillcrest Farmers Market. Every cup here is still brewed the old-fashioned way: using traditional phin filters, even if it means a painstaking four-hour process for each concentrated batch. This commitment to authenticity creates a coffee experience that’s as rich in story as it is in taste.

The coffee menu is a journey of Vietnamese classics and innovative specialties. Try the signature Saigon Iced Coffee—robust, sweet, and intensely aromatic—a local legend in itself. Don’t miss the Coconut Frappe, blending creamy coconut and condensed milk, or the acclaimed Hanoi Egg Coffee, a silky custard-topped treat. Each drink is crafted for depth and satisfaction, whether you crave tradition or adventure. Saigon Coffee’s energetic vibe is fueled by quick, friendly service and a loyal community of aficionados. For the full experience, ask for recommendations; the house specialties never disappoint. This family-owned haven invites you to slow down, savor, and taste the heart of Vietnam in every sip.
