Coffee Roaster
À Bloc
★ 4.7
Local micro-batch roasting, light-roast focus, cycling-retail hybrid.
À Bloc has been on York Boulevard since 2017, and the formula is unusual enough to remember: a serious specialty coffee roastery and a serious cycling retail shop sharing one floor. The cycling side isn't decoration — owners are actual riders, the retail bay carries proper road bikes, and the cafe regularly hosts pre-ride coffee groups. The coffee side, though, is what got À Bloc on every NELA specialty guide.
The roasting programme is small-batch and locally focused. Light-roast single-origins make up most of the rotation, with seasonal micro-lots when the harvest delivers. The espresso bar pulls cleanly; the milk drinks lean classical. Pour-over is offered to order with a short wait.
The space mixes industrial-cycling and coffee-shop calm — polished concrete, exposed beams, bicycles on the wall as both decor and inventory. Regulars are split between Highland Park locals on laptops and weekend cyclists rolling in mid-route. It works because both communities take their respective crafts seriously.
A standout for anyone doing the Highland Park coffee circuit. Pair with Kumquat for a complete York Boulevard morning.
