Coffee Roaster

Allpress Espresso Tokyo Roastery

4.2

NZ-born roaster's Asian flagship. Working roastery + café since 2014. Signature long-roast espresso, transparent sourcing programme.

Allpress Espresso opened its Tokyo flagship in 2014 in a converted warehouse on the edge of Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, joining Blue Bottle and ARiSE in turning the canal-side neighbourhood into Tokyo's specialty coffee capital. The Auckland-born roaster brought its signature "long-roast" approach — a medium roast designed for milk-based drinks without sacrificing origin character — and a transparent sourcing programme built on long-term farmer relationships.

The Tokyo site is a working roastery first, café second. The roaster is visible from the seating area, fresh bags are stacked along the walls, and the smell of cooling beans drifts through the room most days. Service runs espresso, batch brew, and a small pour-over menu, plus a tight food programme of pastries and toasts. Bean retail is a major focus — Tokyo Roastery supplies most of Allpress's Asia accounts from this site.

The space is large, industrial, and family-friendly, with plenty of seating and a courtyard. It's a destination — built around the experience of watching coffee being made at scale — and a near-mandatory stop on any Kiyosumi-Shirakawa coffee walk.
