Buna

Buna started as a small café in Roma Norte and grew into one of Mexico City's most quietly influential specialty operations. The Roma flagship on Orizaba 42 anchors a sister roastery called La Tostadora in Doctores — a converted industrial space where Buna roasts the Mexican single origins that supply both shops and a long list of wholesale clients.

Sourcing is the heart of the project. Buna works under the tagline Café Rico que Conserva Ecosistemas — coffee that preserves ecosystems — partnering with Mexican producers whose practices protect the land they grow on. Expect light-to-medium roasts with origin transparency on every bag, plus a rotating filter menu that follows the harvest calendar.

The Roma café is bright, plant-filled, and busy from open to close — equal parts locals on laptops and out-of-towners working through the menu. Buna hosted the Barista League Mexico City in 2022, a marker of how central the brand has become to the country's specialty conversation.
