Joo Chiat husband-and-wife roastery. Direct-trade smallholder sourcing, seasonal small-batch roasting, single-origin focus, character-driven.

Cata Coffee is the kind of operation that gets quietly recommended within Singapore's specialty community — a small Joo Chiat roastery co-founded by Han and Marian, a husband-and-wife team who build the menu around direct relationships with smallholder growers and roast in seasonal small batches. The model is unhurried by design: lots come and go with the harvest calendar, and the team is happy to walk through provenance on any bean you ask about.

The coffee programme is straightforwardly third-wave: light-to-medium roasts on single origins selected for clarity, served on a tight filter setup plus a clean house espresso. There is no signature blend that has to be everything to everyone — every coffee on the menu is a deliberate choice, with a bean card that lays out origin, processing, and tasting notes.

The Joo Chiat location gives the café a quieter, more residential pace than the central Jalan Besar corridor, and the small bar inside encourages sitting and asking questions. For visitors building a multi-cafe Singapore day, Cata is the Eastside specialty stop that earns the detour.
