Coffee Roaster

Helsingin Kahvipaahtimo

4.7

Founded 2011 by a Kaffa co-founder. Vallila roastery + two cafés. Direct-trade single origins.

Helsingin Kahvipaahtimo — the name translates to 'Helsinki Coffee Roastery' — was founded in 2011 by Benjamin Andberg, one of Kaffa's two original co-founders. After years building Kaffa, Andberg launched a second project with a slightly tighter focus: a dedicated roastery in Vallila feeding two retail cafés in the city.

The roastery is the engine of the operation. Andberg and his team work with a smaller circle of producer partners, roasting single-origin coffees in small batches across light and medium profiles. Both cafés pour the full filter and espresso programme alongside a retail line that has quietly become a fixture in Helsinki specialty grocery shelves.

The Vallila site is industrial in feel — exposed brick, the smell of fresh roast — and worth visiting if you're nearby; the other cafés sit closer to the centre and serve a more steady commuter crowd. Either way, the cup is dialled-in and the project is a useful counterpoint to Kaffa for anyone wanting to taste two distinct lineages of Finnish specialty side by side.
