Wide Awake Coffee, founded in 2019 by Rutger & Senina, embodies a passion for exceptional coffee, music, and Brussels, aiming to make specialty coffee accessible and inclusive. They champion a transparent sourcing model, paying 2-7x the "fair-trade" FOB price to specialty importers and cooperatives, eschewing the term "Direct Trade" for its oversimplification.
Their commitment to quality is evident in their Loring roaster, ensuring clean and consistent roasts, complemented by a color sorter for defect removal and a rigorous, data-driven QC system that includes logging coffee color and cupping every batch.Their Brussels presence is marked by three distinct experiences: the flagship St Catherine café with extensive coffee and fresh pastries, the fast-paced Flagey espresso bar, and the intimate Dansaert slow brew bar, which also houses their roastery, QC lab, and training space—a hub designed by local craftspeople.
Wide Awake actively fosters community through monthly, mostly free cuppings and events, promoting appreciation for fair pricing. Their "Green Deal" reflects a strong sustainability ethos, offering discounts for reusable containers, delivering wholesale in reusable buckets, using 100% recyclable CO2 neutral packaging, and powering their Atelier with Belgian renewable electricity. Their current coffee portfolio includes blends like Duchess (Brazil & Colombia), Duke (Brazil), Moon Safari (Colombia), and single origins such as Anemone (Kenya Githaiti AA).
