Araku Coffee

4.2

Seed-to-cup Colaba café pouring its own Araku Valley estate coffee.

Araku is one of the few cafés anywhere that can trace its coffee from a single cup all the way back to the soil it grew in. The beans come from the brand's own estates in the Araku Valley of the Eastern Ghats, farmed with regenerative, biodynamic methods, and the Mumbai flagship pours them inside Sunny House, a restored 1897 heritage building a short walk from the Gateway of India.

The brewing is precise and unfussy — Modbar extraction, clean single-origin profiles, and a menu tiered from playful to seriously geeky. This is specialty coffee as a design object: airy white interiors, brass fittings, and a wall of bean cards that doubles as a story about provenance. The brand's coffee has been decorated internationally, including honours in Paris.

It leans more polished café than scrappy brew bar, and that's the point. Come for an espresso and a slow morning, and taste what Indian estate coffee can be at its most refined.
