Belum Coffee Bar

Belum is the cool kid of Hamburg's coffee scene, and it knows it. The Eppendorf bar grew out of a lamp-design business launched in 2021 — which is why beautiful lamps still fill the space — before coffee took over in 2023 and, in just a couple of years, made Belum almost synonymous with specialty coffee in the city. The menu is the tell: black coffee leads, with double shot, daily brew, hand brew, specialty brew and cold drip outnumbering the milk options (piccolo, flat white, latte — and pointedly no cappuccino). Beans are sourced from several European roasters, chiefly the Dutch outfit Friedhats, and pulled not on the ubiquitous La Marzocco but on a sleek Tempesta that's the star of the bar. With a narrow Eppendorf street out front for warm-weather seating and a second outpost, Petit Belum, now open in Ottensen, it's a confident, coffee-first stop for drinkers who take their cup black.
