Black Hat

4.8

Design-led Eimsbüttel third-wave bar with creamy flat whites, hand-brew filter and own-blend beans to take home.

When it comes to third-wave coffee in Hamburg, Black Hat sits near the top of most lists. Opened in 2018 in Eimsbüttel, the compact, design-led room on Eppendorfer Weg fast became a neighbourhood institution, serving some of the creamiest flat whites in the city — and an Americano good enough to convert dedicated milk-coffee drinkers, which says everything about the beans. Those beans are Black Hat's own blends, developed in-house and roasted by partner roasters, then sold in extra-cute packaging that makes an easy gift. There's hand-brew filter and matcha alongside the espresso menu, and the food is no afterthought: the Russian honey cake has a following of its own, and the Reuben sandwich comes with an optional shot of caviar. Stylish, friendly and seriously good at the basics — a model modern Hamburg coffee bar.
