Document Coffee Bar — specialty coffee shop in Los Angeles

Specialty Coffee Shop

Document Coffee Bar

4.5

Multi-roaster bar, contemporary art gallery, Korean-owned, iced maple syrup latte signature.

Document is one of the most thoughtful specialty coffee spaces in Los Angeles — and unusual in being equally a contemporary art gallery. Owners Sojung Kwon and Byoungok Koh are artists themselves, and the cafe in Koreatown's Wilshire stretch reflects that completely: rotating exhibitions on the walls, considered architecture, a sense of stillness that's rare in LA coffee bars.

The coffee programme is multi-roaster, meaning beans rotate across a curated list of respected California and global specialty roasters. The espresso menu is precise; pour-overs are offered to order; signature drinks like the iced maple syrup latte have built a loyal following that travels across town for them. Single-origin and seasonal options anchor the menu.

The space is the other reason to visit — high ceilings, white walls, careful lighting, art that genuinely belongs in a gallery setting. It draws Koreatown locals, Mid-City professionals, and a strong design and creative crowd. Sprudge wrote a dedicated feature on the cafe; it's regularly cited as one of LA's most distinctive specialty spaces.

A clear flagship of LA's East Asian-influenced specialty scene, and a reminder that coffee bars can also be cultural institutions.
