Koffee Mameya Kakeru

4.5

Coffee omakase tasting menu. Four-seat bar, multi-course sequence of single origins and brew methods. Reservation-led, kodawari precision.

Opened in 2021, Koffee Mameya Kakeru extends Eiichi Kunitomo's curatorial vision into something Tokyo had never quite seen before: a coffee omakase. The Kiyosumi-Shirakawa venue is set inside a quiet former warehouse, a few minutes from the canal, and the format is closer to fine dining than to a café.

Guests sit at a small counter — typically four seats per service — and the team guides them through a multi-course sequence: an opener, a contrast pour, a flavour-pairing round with chocolate or fruit, and a closing cup. The single origins are chosen the day of service and tend toward the experimental: anaerobic naturals, washed Geshas, micro-lot Ethiopians. Every course is brewed differently and explained in detail.

The space is intentionally minimalist — pale wood, indirect light, a long counter that frames the brewing as performance. It's quiet, focused, and roughly an hour from start to finish. Reservations are essential and book out weeks ahead.

For specialty coffee travellers, Kakeru is the closest thing Tokyo has to a destination tasting menu — and one of the world's most ambitious coffee experiences.
