Kurasu Singapore

4.4

Kyoto roastery in SG. Weekly-fresh beans from Japan, pour-over focus, ceremonial matcha, kissaten aesthetic, brewing equipment retail.

Kurasu Singapore is, in spirit and practice, an embassy of Kyoto coffee culture. The parent operation roasts in Japan; beans are flown weekly to the Waterloo Street brew bar near Bras Basah, served the way a Kyoto kissaten would serve them — slowly, precisely, with attention to water and weight.

The menu is short and rotating. Expect three to four single-origin filter options at any time, brewed primarily on hand pour-over, plus a small line of espresso drinks for those who want something quicker. Ceremonial matcha is part of the offer too, prepared with the same precision as the filter. The space is minimal — pale wood, clean lines, equipment displayed like instruments.

This is also one of the only places in Singapore where you can buy proper Japanese brewing gear: Kalita Wave drippers, Hario Mugen brewers, Origami cups, the lot. If you want to taste how Japanese specialty thinks about coffee, you don't need to fly to Kyoto. Kurasu has brought it to Bugis.
