POC – People on Caffeine

POC – People on Caffeine has been a fixture of Vienna's specialty scene long enough to count as an institution. Founded by Robert Gruber — 1st place at the Austrian Brewers Cup and 6th at the 2012 World Brewers Cup — it sits inside a former funeral parlour of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Vienna's 8th district (Josefstadt), where Beethoven's body was once laid before burial. The room is rambling and lab-like: every shelf packed with grinders, drippers and accessories.

The coffee programme is filter-first. Aeropress, Clever Dripper, and pour-overs anchor the menu, with two La Marzocco espresso machines on the bar (one set up specifically for experienced enthusiasts to dial in their own drinks). Beans rotate through seasonal offerings; the focus is on bright, clean profiles you can actually taste.

Order a filter, grab a slice of the poppy-seed cake locals swear by, and settle in. POC isn't trying to be slick — it's trying to be right.
