Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Stumptown's Arts District location is the largest single specialty coffee space in Los Angeles — a 7,000 square foot facility that combines retail bar, roastery, training lab and warehouse, all under one roof on Santa Fe Avenue. The brand has been in the building since September 2013, and a decade in, it remains one of the foundational stops on any LA specialty tour.

The coffee programme is built around the iconic Hair Bender espresso — one of American third-wave's defining blends — alongside seasonal single-origins from Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, Guatemala and beyond. Pour-overs are dialled to the bean; batch filter runs throughout the day; the milk drinks are unfussy and consistent. Stumptown's sourcing programme is one of the longest-running direct-trade operations in American specialty, and the lineage shows in the cup.

The space is industrial and open — high ceilings, exposed steel, the production roastery visible through glass. It draws Arts District locals, design-district professionals, and the specialty coffee tourist crowd doing the Stumptown / Verve / Maru circuit a few blocks apart. The training lab hosts brewing classes and trade events.

Easy to recommend. Iconic for good reason.
