Clamp Coffee Sarasa
★ 4.2
In-house roaster in a vine-covered alley, pouring slow hand-brewed single origins.
Founded by barista-roaster Tomonori Kanbara, Clamp Coffee Sarasa is the specialty coffee arm of Kyoto's long-running Sarasa café group. Finding it is half the pleasure: you duck down a quiet alley near Nijo Castle, through an entrance so wrapped in greenery it nearly disappears, into a weathered, plant-filled room built from repurposed wood. It's one of the few Kyoto cafés that still roasts on its own in-house roaster, and the menu reflects a confident simplicity — origins listed plainly by country alongside the house Sarasa Blend. Everything is hand-brewed slowly, cup by cup, so this is a place to settle in rather than grab and go. Order a pour-over and the signature French toast, and let the unhurried pace do its work. A genuine Kyoto hideaway worth the hunt.
