Erlik Kaffe: Brewing Hope, One Cup at a Time
Erlik Kaffe isn't just a coffee shop; it's a vibrant social enterprise with a profound mission. Owned by the Stiftelsen Erlik (=Oslo Foundation), the force behind the renowned "=Oslo" street magazine, this café provides vital employment and expert barista training to individuals with backgrounds of substance abuse. Since its 2017 inception, Erlik Kaffe has generated over 30,000 hours of paid work for more than 50 baristas, fostering an inclusive environment where diverse life experiences converge.
Their commitment to quality is evident in their collaboration with the historic Norwegian specialty coffee roastery, Solberg & Hansen, ensuring every cup is crafted with expertise and care.
The unique soul of Erlik Kaffe has garnered significant attention, earning recognition from Lonely Planet as one of Oslo's finest coffee bars. Its welcoming atmosphere has even hosted Norway's Prime Minister and the Crown Prince and Princess. Beyond their public cafés, including a mobile coffee bike gifted by the Kavli Foundation, Erlik Kaffe also operates internal coffee bars for major corporate law firms. The journey of its creation and the training of its first baristas were famously documented in a television series by Petter Nyquist, further cementing its place as a beacon of hope and exceptional coffee.
