Mother Roaster

Mother Roaster is the kind of Bangkok specialty destination that doesn't translate well in photos. Tucked on the second floor of an unmarked Talad Noi shophouse — past spare-parts shops and street art, up a narrow staircase — the bar opens into a lived-in loft of hanging plants, mismatched chairs, and a single dripper station.

The bar is run by Pim, a 70-year-old barista known across Bangkok as "Mother," with three decades of pour-over experience and a quiet, focused dripping style. The menu is filter-only — single origins from northern Thailand and selected importers, hand-roasted in-house, brewed on Origami and Hario drippers with deliberate, slow pours. The signature Single Snow White is a single shot of espresso shaken with cold milk — one of the few non-drip drinks on the menu, and worth ordering at least once.

Talad Noi is one of Bangkok's most photographed neighbourhoods — old Chinatown shophouses, street art, garages turned cafés — and Mother Roaster is its quiet, focused centre. The opposite of an Instagram cafe, even though it photographs beautifully. Go for the pour-over, stay for the calm.
