Rufous Coffee Roasters
★ 4.6
Q-Grader-led roastery with on-site roasting room, 24-hour cold slow-drip, and a multi-method bar covering espresso, pour-over, and cold drip.
Long before Taipei's current wave of minimalist cafés, Rufous Coffee Roasters helped establish a more serious, craft-driven approach to coffee in the city. Founder Xiao Yang is a certified Q-Grader and a former Italian chef, and he has been roasting on-site at the original Da'an location for more than 15 years.
The coffee programme runs across multiple methods. Espresso pulls from a Synesso machine; pour-overs and cold drip round out the menu; the espresso-and-cappuccino tasting set lets you experience one bean two ways. The second Zhongshan location features a roasting room in plain sight and a cold slow-drip station that takes a full day to prepare each batch for the following day's service. Dark wood tones and a classic atmosphere create warm settings while keeping the attention on the coffee.
Rufous draws a steady mix of locals, students from the two nearby universities, and visiting coffee enthusiasts. It is not a place designed for quick turnover — the kind of room where an afternoon disappears over a single tasting flight with the roaster's hum in the background. If you only know one Taipei roastery by name, it should be this one.
