Solkatt Coffee Kyoto
★ 4.9
Nordic-minimal roaster-stand near Tō-ji pouring clean, seasonal single-origin filter.
Solkatt opened in September 2024, when Junpei Yamamoto converted his father's old bike shop into a spare, light-filled coffee stand a short walk from Tō-ji's five-story pagoda. The name is Swedish for the reflections sunlight throws on a wall — a fitting image for a place this quiet and considered. Yamamoto brings sixteen years behind the bar across Kyoto, Osaka and Berlin, and it reads in the cup: a deliberately tight, seasonal single-origin menu and a clean, structured, European-style hand-brew that locals quickly pushed to a near-perfect rating. The format is minimal — filter, espresso, a few iced drinks, a good croissant — and the beans rotate with the season, with named-producer lots you can take home or order online. It's a small, focused, beautifully-run stand. Come for the filter and stay for the calm.
