Subko Coffee

4.4

Restored-bungalow Bandra roastery and bakehouse roasting direct-trade Indian micro-lots.

Subko began in 2020 with an outsized mission: to inject the Indian subcontinent into the global conversation around specialty coffee. Five years on, it has done exactly that. The flagship occupies Mary Lodge, a restored 1925 bungalow tucked into Bandra's Ranwar village, where a roastery, a craft bakehouse and a design studio share one green-roofed address.

Founder and chief roaster Rahul Reddy is a Q-grader, and it shows in the cup. Subko roasts direct-trade micro-lots from Coorg, Chikmagalur and the Araku Valley — many scoring above 85 — and brews them with the precision of a lab. The filter and pour-over menu is where the sourcing sings, the espresso is dialled in with intent, and the laminated pastry, baked in-house, is reason enough to linger.

The room is all warm brick, soft light and quiet craft — equal parts café, workshop and gallery. It has become a Mumbai institution in record time. Come hungry, come curious, and give yourself an hour.
