Tasuku Coffee
★ 4.9
Melbourne-style dawn coffee stand pouring imported Wood & Co beans as espresso or drip.
Tasuku Coffee is a deliberately ramshackle, Melbourne-inspired micro-stand in Kyoto's Kita Ward, run single-handed by Tasuku Kawai out of a tiny warehouse with a takeout window, a construction-tarp bar and crate seating. He doesn't roast — and doesn't pretend to. Instead he direct-imports beans from Melbourne's respected Wood & Co, serving espresso or drip "depending on your mood," with milk from Hida in Gifu plus soy and Ave Natur oat options. It opens at dawn for a fiercely loyal local crowd who grab a cup and walk the three minutes to the Kamo River to drink it. There's almost nothing to it — a window, a few crates, great coffee, no fuss — and that's exactly the point. Catch it early; the hours are short and it closes by mid-afternoon.
