Tropicalia Coffee

4.2

SCA 2022 Coffee Design Award winner, rare-varietal filter programme, Quinta Camacho.

Tropicalia opened at the end of 2021 and almost immediately landed the Specialty Coffee Association's 2022 Coffee Design Award for Coffee Spaces — recognition usually reserved for cafés in Tokyo, Copenhagen, or Melbourne, not Latin America. Walking in, you understand the call. The room is warm wood, layered greenery, and soft natural light — Bali by way of Bogotá, more lounge than laboratory.

The coffee programme matches the room: a tight, rotating list of Colombian single-origins with a soft spot for rare varietals — Pink Bourbon, Gesha, anaerobic and natural-process micro-lots — pulled as espresso or built into careful pour-overs at the filter bar. Founder Cristian Mendoza roasts in-house with an eye toward the tropics-and-origin story the brand is built around. Pastry case to match.

It's the cafe to bring someone you're trying to convince that Colombian specialty has caught up with the world — because by 2022 it had.
